The Costello Lab is always looking for motivated undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdocs to join the lab. If you're interested, send me an email at robincos[at]buffalo.edu.
The Costello Lab is located at the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York. We are housed in the Department of Biological Sciences. Buffalo is a great place to live with great food (home of the Buffalo wing and my favorite ice cream of all time), outdoor adventure (think Niagara falls and beautiful gorges), a vibrant coffee and music scene, and nice people.
I'm always thrilled to host postdoctoral fellows in the lab. I encourage potential postdocs to apply for independent funding for projects focused on undergraduate biology education, and I am happy to help brainstorm ideas for collaborative proposals. I especially encourage applying to the STEM Education Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (STEM Ed IPRF) (due first Tuesday in December) and to the National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. If you are interested in joining the lab as a postdoc, get in touch!
I am currently recruiting PhD students to start in the 2026-2027 academic year! Applications are due December 1, 2025. Check out this site for more information about the application process (note: no GRE requirement to apply!). Please reach out to me before submitting your application, so we can discuss your interests and fit with the current research directions of the lab. I encourage interested PhD students to apply to the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (due in mid October) and to check out other programs that offer advanced degrees in biology education research to find their best mentor-mentee fit.
If you are a UB undergraduate student looking to get research experience in the lab, there are opportunities to contribute to research projects for course credit (BIO 498). Send me an email, and we can set up a meeting to talk more. In your email, please include a CV/resume, a description of who you are, and why you're interested in biology education research.
